Step 1: Place specimen in middle of a clean slide. Make sure it is laying flat and not folded over.
Step 2: Add 2-3 drops of stain solution. The stains used for plant cells are iodine. The stains used for animal cells are methylene blue. They stain the nucleus of the cell.
Step 3: With your left-hand move coverslip so it's bottom edge makes contact with both the side and edge of stain solution. Use right hand to support top edge of coverslip with tweezers.
Step 4: Carefully the coverslip with tweezers. Make sure no bubbles are trapped.
Step 5: Place slide on the microscope stage. Examine it under low power magnification.
